NEW JOBS

1,500 positions are now available at Xerox Jamaica!

Some 1,500 positions are now available at Xerox Jamaica, as human resource (HR) manager, Helen Broomfield, disclosed that they are currently recruiting youngsters from across the island for the vacancies.
Speaking with The Gleaner following the Jamaica Promotion Corporation (JAMPRO) and the Avasant Foundation's graduation ceremony, she said that there are a myriad of opportunities for youths to grow and advance themselves professionally.
As part of JAMPRO long-term strategy to increase the number of jobs in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry to more than 30,000 by 2020, the national agency has partnered with Avasant Foundation (a US-based not-for-profit organisation) to undertake training for "high-potential" youths in Kingston.
Thirty-five youths graduated on Saturday at the ceremony which was held at the University of Technology. Broomfield said, "We serve a large number of our clients who come from the retail, and travel industries." She noted the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, Black Friday sales, and Christmas season all bring "the need to step up the customer care and the support we provide for our clients, by way of our chat and calls.
"We do have about 1,500 (spaces) that we will be filling between Kingston and Montego Bay, and we have been out in the communities," she added.
 ENGLISH A MUST
Broomfield noted that while they have lowered the criteria to a minimum of three Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate subjects, participants must have English language and must be successful in the various entrance exams which will test for the ability to multitask, in addition to having good communications skills.
"They come in as contract workers and then we retain a percentage for full-time work. What will happen is that those calls will lead to additional customers that need to be supported," she told The Gleaner.
In seeking to allay fears with regards to how lucrative the sector might be, she urged youths to focus on growth and opportunities.
"We had a number of persons who stayed on as agents, but then we have a number of persons who have progressed. Typically, we promote persons within six months to 12 months, dependent on their performance. As accounts grow for the number of agents you hire, you have to have a number of supervisory staff, a number of quality staff, and so you have opportunities that are constantly available at these higher levels," she said.
