The Housing Agency of Jamaica Limited is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the positions of LEGAL OFFICER - salary: $5,881,100.00 per annum.
Education/Experience:
- Law degree from a university recognized by the Council of Legal Education
- Legal Education Certification awarded by the Council of Legal Education
- Three (3) years experience in a similar work environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent the Agency as it relates to legal matters
- Draft legal documents for transferring land, procurement of parent titles, mortgage documents, agreements, declarations, affidavits
- Create, review and amend all contracts and legal documents (contracts for sale, promissory notes, guarantees, etc) and advise on legal implications of proposed clauses in contracts being negotiated with a view to securing most favorable terms and protecting the Agency from prejudicial terms of contracts, etc
- Assist the Senior Conveyance Officer in making applications for splinter titles
- Handle litigation matters as required, preparing requisite briefs, instructing the Agency's attorneys, and appearing in chambers and/or in court as necessary to represent HAJL
- Meet regularly and participate in meetings with internal and external clients to ensure customer satisfaction with services provided by members of the department and the HAJL
- Assist the Senior Manager to develop and implement standards of operating procedures in compliance with the government regulations and with the preparation of Reports
