Applications are invited from suitable qualified individuals to fill the post of Parish Disaster Coordinator (GMG/AM 3) in the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation salary range $1,229,060.00 - $1,460,966.00 per annum and any allowance(s) attached to the post.
Roles and Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Executive Officer and working in close cooperation with ODPEM, the incumbent is responsible for coordinating disaster management activities within the parish to which he/she is assigned. In particular, responsible for; providing the Parish/Disaster Committee, government agencies, the private sector and voluntary organizations with the necessary advice and assistance in implementing disaster management measures and for ensuring that they are fully conversant with and understand the sections of the Parish and National Disaster Plan relating to their particular organization of community. The incumbent is also responsible for monitoring, on a continuous basis, existing in times of disaster management arrangements in the Parish to ensure adequate response in times of disaster, and to satisfy himself/herself that there is readiness on the part of all concerned to cope with disaster situations or similar emergencies which cannot be avoided.
Job Responsibilities but are not limited to:
- Liaise with the Regional Disaster Coordinator of ODPEM.
- Be fully knowledgeable about the National and Parish and the disaster management measures that have been developed to cope with disaster situations.
- Be an ex-officio member of the Parish Disaster Committees in his/her parish maintain contact with coordinators of adjoining parishes, develop mutual aid plans through discussions, field visits, be aware of situations/ hazards which could pose a threat to his/her parish.
- Meet and discuss with representatives of Parish Disaster Committee, government, private and voluntary organizations, about the disaster management plans and programmes to be implemented by them and provide the necessary suggestions for improvement.
- Ensure that all resources necessary, in case of a disaster and or emergencies are readily accessible, by examining existing facilities, equipment and supplies and making formal arrangements to secure their release from the government, private and voluntary agencies concerned.
- Bachelor of Science Degree or Associate Degree in Public Administration, Management Studies, Business Administration or equivalent.
- Two (2) to three (3) years' experience in a related field.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
