Legal, Risk and Compliance Manager
Core Functions
This position is responsible for providing legal advice in all aspects of the law as it affects the Credit Union and its operation, assessing legal implications and developing strategies aimed at protecting the Credit Union's interest. The incumbent is accountable for developing and implementing Risk Management Polices, Programs and Standards to mitigate against all risks and to ensure compliance with all Laws, Regulations, Policies and Procedures. The incumbent also plays a role in ensuring that the Credit Union achieves its Mission, Vision and Targets.
Other Major Functions
- Contributing to the Credit Union's strategic planning process; paying particular attention to the Legal, Risk, Compliance and Recovery Management related strategic objectives and initiatives.
- Developing and implementing Legal and Risk Management Policies, Programs and Standards to mitigate against all risks to the Credit Union.
- Acting as the Nominated Officer in the Credit Union for Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
- Bachelor of Laws Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Degree in Management, Accounting/Auditing or equivalent, from an accredited training institution.
- Specialized training in Enterprise/Business Risk Management and Compliance.
- Three (3) years' experience in a senior position in Risk and Compliance, preferably in a Credit Union, commercial or investment banking environment.
- Strong legal experience, in a financial environment
- Sound knowledge of the Credit Union's policies, procedures and standards specifically those relating to risk and compliance.
- Thorough knowledge of the Acts and Regulations governing the Credit Union (e.g.Co-operative and Friendly Societies Act, proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), BOJ Act, etc.).
- Expert knowledge of industry standards pertaining to risk and compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant management information systems.
- Ability to read and interpret financial reports, legal documents, laws and regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to pay keen attention to details.
- Excellent problem solving, analytical, time management and organizational skills.
- High level of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality.
