The Department of Correctional Services invites applications from males and females to be trained as Correctional Officer 1.
Prerequisites:
- Four (4) CSEC/GCE O' level, SSC (ranges 4 and 5) and City & Guild (Level 3 only). Subjects MUST include English Language.
- Jamaica National Service Corp Graduate Certification is an asset
- Must be prepared to work Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays
- Must be prepared to work on shifts
- Willing to be transferred to any of our Correctional Institutions (job is transferable islandwide)
- Successful in all the following areas:
- Pre- medical assessment
- Entrance assessment
- Interview
- Psychological Evaluation
- Physical assessment
- Fingerprint vetting
- Polygraph
- Laboratory Investigation (Blood Test)
- Medical examination
Other Requirements:
- Must be from the ages 18-40 years old
- Males - 140 lbs - 160 lbs; minimum height of 5 feet 7 inches
- Females - 125 lbs - 140 lbs; minimum height of 5 feet 5 inches
- Mentally and physically fit
- Must be fully immunized (proof required)
- No visible tattoos, no earrings for males and one (1) piercing for females
Stipend paid during training - $30,000.00 (fortnightly)
Upon successful completion of training:
Basic salary - $1711,060 per annum housing allowance per annum

- Two (2) written character references/recommendations from a JP/Minister of Religion/School Principal/ a police officer of the gazetted rank (superintendent or upwards).
