Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities) 1
  • The British High Commission in Kingston is seeking an experienced Driver to join our Transport Team. The Transport Team is a part of the Corporate Services unit and is responsible for delivering a professional transport service for the High Commission. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Driver interested in a career with an outstanding organisation.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic team player with a clean driving and criminal record, a pleasant and professional personality.

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Provide transport services to all levels of diplomatic and VIP personnel
  • Maintain daily journey records on paper as well as collate records electronically at the end of each month
  • Ensure transport fleet vehicles are kept in immaculate condition
  • Comply fully with High Commission Transport policy
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Essential on arrival:
  • Candidates must independently hold the right to live and work in Jamaica
  • Driver must have the necessary skills, experience and certification to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Minimum 6 years’ driving experience
  • Experience in driving Diplomatic or VIP personnel preferred
  • Basic administration / IT skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to perform data entry, internet research and scheduling appointments
  • Impeccable driving record with a clean drivers’ licence
  • Ability to work flexible hours including occasional early mornings and late evenings
  • Knowledge of the local road network
Candidate should also possess:
  • Excellent customer service skills, be focused and have an eye for detail.
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team, and provide support to colleagues where required.
  • Ability to organize time effectively while taking into account customer needs and requirements.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Desirable:
  • Training in First Aid
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practices
  • Knowledge or experience in the mechanical operation of a motor vehicle

Other benefits and conditions of employment
  • Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
