Plant Engineer - Electrical Instrumentation & Controls
This position is responsible for providing appropriate technical solutions to plant operating problems and timely interventions to ensure high plant equipment performance is maintained.
POSITION SUMMARY:This position is responsible for providing appropriate technical solutions to plant operating problems and timely interventions to ensure high plant equipment performance is maintained. The incumbent is also responsible for providing engineering advice and supervision in the installation, maintenance, modification and overhaul of the Company’s plant and equipment.
ELEMENTS OF MAJOR DUTIES
- Identify and specify materials, spare parts and tools required for maintenance activities. Verify parts on receival for technical compliance. Liaise with the stores and Purchasing Department as necessary.
- Monitor the condition of boilers, turbines, generators, plant auxiliaries and systems.
- Participate in planning of predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance programmes. This includes preparing job schedules, manpower and technical requirements.
- Write job and machine specifications and provide related instructions to work crew.
- Carry out routine testing of plant and equipment.
- Develop designs for modification of electrical plant and equipment. Ensure modifications are documented and drawings updated, where necessary.
- Initiate procedures and techniques for effecting repairs/modification to plant and equipment.
- Prepare specifications and tender documents and participate in the evaluation of bids.
- Monitor contractors to ensure timely completion of projects and adherence to contractual obligations. Manage associated budgets.
- Initiate analysis of equipment and system failure mode and develop timely solutions to eliminate the cause.
- Monitor plant incident reports and participate in preliminary investigations.
EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
- Training in the maintenance of industrial equipment, electrical/instrumentation and electronic control systems.
- Well-developed analytical, human relations and communication skills
- Training in relevant Computer Applications and Project Management
- A minimum of three years’ relevant experience.
- Training in electrical/instrumentation and controls testing and inspection methods.
- Knowledge of computerized operation and maintenance systems including Distributive Controls System (D.C.S.) and Programmable Logic Controls (P.L.C.) systems.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and electrical circuits, logical fault finding and analysis of instrumentation and electrical plant and equipment.
