Accounting Clerk (Kingston, Jamaica) - Rock Solid Plastics Limited


Job Purpose/Summary

As Accounting Clerk at Rock Solid Plastics Limited you will be tasked with updating and maintaining financial records, reconciling bank statements, and managing our accounting databases. The ideal candidate will be offering administrative and bookkeeping assistance preparing financial statements and confirming the accuracy of the accounting database.

Core Functions/Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform routine clerical accounting duties while adhering to established accounting standards.
  • Be a resource for accounts payable and receivable.
  • Assist in audit requests.
  • Verify and post details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and total accounts to ledgers and databases.
  • Match, batch, and coding vendor invoices
  • Maintains accounting records by making copies and filing documents.
  • Protect the organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Daily enter key data of financial transactions in the database.
  • Provide assistance and support to company personnel.
  • Participate in month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, sales tax computations, and other accounting duties in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the month-end inventory count.
  • Petty Cash management.

This description is not exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to undertake duties that are broadly in line with the above responsibilities.

Educational Requirements, Qualifications and Experience
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or related fields would be an asset.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years' accounting experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of QuickBooks would be an asset.
  • Strong competence with MS Office Suite of software (Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Word, Outlook)

Senior Accounting Clerk

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for providing accounting support to the Accounts Department. Updating and maintaining accounting journals, ledgers and other records. Detailing business transactions (e.g. disbursement of cheques, expenses vouchers, receipts, etc.), verifying the accuracy of invoices and other accounting documents or records and daily postings into computer system using available computer program. Compiling data and preparing a variety of reports.

Reconciling records for external vendors or customers, analyzing general ledger accounts and ensuring files are completed and maintained as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Journals for Air and Ocean Commission
  • Prepare Credit Card Reconciliation
  • Preparation of invoices/receipts for customers.
  • Post credit card transactions and verify with statement
  • Assist with annual budget preparation.
  • Verify Door to Door (DTD) transactions before authorizing credit card clearance.
  • Prepare Bank Reconciliation and maintain an in house balance spreadsheet.
  • Organize and plan meetings for Payables and Receivables.
  • Prepare, post and disburse cheques, also notify customers when cheque is ready.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Post transactions and key daily worksheets to the general ledger.
  • Monitor and also prepare monthly payables/receivables reports.
  • Maintain files for audit and internal purposes.
  • Prepare payments for all bills which include utilities, etc.
  • Monthly payroll preparation.
  • Monitor Accounting Clerks for both Payables and Receivables.

  • An Associate Degree or level 2 Accounting Certification.
  • A minimum of three to five (3-5) years' experience as a Senior Accounting Clerk.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
