Bank Reconciliation Officer (Min. of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade)

Description: Bank Reconciliation Officer (FMG/AT 3)

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Director, Final Accounts, the Bank Reconciliation Officer is responsible for ensuring that the Ministry’s bank accounts are reconciled on a timely basis.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Prepares Bank Reconciliations for the Ministry’s Salaries and Deposit Accounts;
  • Ensures that the Bank Statements and cashed cheques are collected promptly from the bank;
  • Ensures that cheques are properly checked against the Bank Statements to determine discrepancies;
  • Ensures that Bank Statement entries are properly posted to the system;
  • Examines Reconciliation Summary and Details and identifies and resolves any errors found until the reconciliation is balanced and free from error;
  • Refers bank charges, debit advices, credit advices, stale cheques to the Journal Clerk for the preparation of the Journal;
  • Advises bank of errors in respect of items on the Bank Statement and follows up with the bank until errors are corrected;
  • Submits completed Bank Reconciliation Statements to the Director, Final Accounts;
  • Performs any other duties assigned from time to time.

Required knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Familiarity with the mandate and role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade
  • Sound knowledge of the Financial Administration and Audit (FAA) Act and the Staff Orders
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Government Accounting principles and practices
  • Good analytical and judgment skills
  • Good organizing skills
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate computerized accounting systems
  • Experience in effecting manual and automated bank reconciliations

Minimum Required Qualification and Experience
  • AAT Level 3 or;
  • ACCA-CAT Level C or;
  • ACCA Level 1 or;
  • Diploma in Accounting from a recognized University or;
  • Associate of Science Degree in Accounting, MIND, or:
  • Diploma in Government Accounting, MIND, i.e. Government Accounting - Levels 1, 2 and 3 or;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Management Studies with Accounting or BBA from a recognized University.
