Kitchen Assistant (St. Catherine, Jamaica) - Christel House

Christel House Jamaica is the newest school in the Christel House International global network. Opened in 2020, Christel House Jamaica currently serves 415 Kindergarten through 6th-grade students. The school will grow by adding a grade each year.


WHAT YOU WILL DO: Christel House Jamaica seeks a Kitchen Assistant to perform various cleaning, preparation, and stocking duties in the school’s kitchens. They wash dishes, help cooks prepare meal, snacks, ingredients and clean kitchens.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation of daily breakfast and lunch menus that meet nutritional guidelines and dietary requirements.
  • Assist to accommodate special dietary needs and food allergies, as necessary.
  • Assist with the preparation of ingredients for meals, including washing, chopping, and portioning food.
  • Prepare simple meals and snacks under the guidance of the Kitchen Lead/Chef.
  • Help serve meals to students and staff during lunch and snack times.
  • Ensure proper portion sizes and follow any dietary requirements.
  • Maintain a friendly and positive attitude while serving meals.
  • Adhere to strict food safety and sanitation standards to maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
  • Monitor and maintain proper food storage and handling practices.
  • Conduct routine kitchen inspections to ensure safety and compliance with health regulations.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment after use.
  • Keep the kitchen, and food storage areas clean and organized.
  • Dispose of waste properly and ensure recycling procedures are followed.
  • Assist with the inventory of supplies as needed while minimizing waste.
  • Maintain records of inventory.
  • Organize and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils, and workspaces.
  • Clean kitchen equipment, surfaces, and utensils regularly.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff to understand dietary needs and preferences.
  • Communicate with teachers, students, and staff to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments to menus.
  • Participate in meetings and school events related to food service.

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma
  • At least 3 CXC passes including Food & Nutrition
  • HEART certification in food preparation
  • Has the ability to cook in bulk (for 500+ persons) would be an asset
  • Proven experience helping in kitchen settings.
  • A food handler's permit.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to safely use kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Sound knowledge of food safety standards and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: Christel House Jamaica seeks teachers to provide support to the teachers to produce high-quality outcomes for the students at Christel House Jamaica. The Teacher facilitates learning by establishing a professional relationship with pupils, creating a positive learning environment, and developing and fostering the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of children, according to age, ability, and aptitude. Assess and record progress, and develop ways to encourage, challenge, and inspire pupils to help them deepen their knowledge and understanding.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching all areas of the primary curriculum
  • Must have behaviour management skills and be able to control, monitor, and teach the class
  • Taking responsibility for the progress of a class of primary-age pupils
  • Organizing the classroom and learning resources and creating displays to encourage a positive learning environment.
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of lessons that cater to the needs of the whole ability range within the class.
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan literacy instruction that correlates with the individual student’s needs or as requested by the classroom teacher.
  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and curriculum consultants to design and implement units and lessons.
  • Working with others to plan and coordinate work.
  • Use the relevant technology to support and differentiate instructions.
  • Keeping up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s in Education, Masters degree would be an asset
  • Two (2) years experience in a similar position
  • Excellent class management skills

Social Worker (St. Catherine, Jamaica) - Christel House

Job Responsibility

  • Assist with the recruitment of new students.
  • Conduct initial, eligibility, and annual review for students.
  • Assist with planning and implementing orientation programs designed to help students adjust to new experiences within the school environment.
  • Conduct monthly home visits.
  • Oversees student welfare and keeps relevant related records.
  • Provide ongoing communication with parents to collaborate on their child/ward’s needs.
  • Assist parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources.
  • Work as a team with administrators and teachers in support of students’ needs.
  • Develop Curriculum and facilitate Life Skill Programs for At-Risk Students.
  • Plan and implement programs for parental support.
  • Develop and implement Behavior Intervention and Individualized Education Plans.
  • Develop and implement health programs for students.
  • Collaborating with external agencies to streamline services for students and their families.
  • Prioritize and respond to demands of the caseload promptly and efficiently.
  • Prepare Action Plans ahead of the start of each academic year.

Kitchen Aid Needed (Spanish Town, Jamaica) - Christel House Jamaica

What you will Do: Christel House Jamaica seeks a Kitchen Aid to perform various cleaning, preparation, and stocking duties in the school's kitchens. They wash dishes, help cooks prepare meal ingredients and clean kitchens.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparing meal ingredients for the cook, which includes washing, peeling, cutting, and slicing ingredients.
  • Assist kitchen staff to unload food supplies from delivery trucks.
  • Properly washing and drying all dishes, utensils, cooking instruments and cutting boards.
  • Neatly putting away all utensils, cooking instruments, dishes, and cutting boards in their respective places.
  • Removing garbage, replacing garbage bags, and washing garbage cans.
  • Mopping and sweeping the kitchen and cafeteria areas as required.
  • Storing ingredients and food items according to food safety standards.

Education and/or Experience
  • high school diploma
  • Proven experience helping in kitchen settings.
  • A food handler's certificate.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to safely use kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Sound knowledge of food safety standards and procedures.

Transportation and Custodian Coordinator

Job Responsibility

  • Ability to drive a coaster bus.
  • Arrive at pick-up and drop-off points on time.
  • Minor plumbing repairs.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of building, grounds, and equipment inspection.
  • Conduct minor electrical repairs.
  • Relocate and assemble office furniture as instructed.
  • Paint frequently uses areas.
  • Ensure the safety of all passengers
Key Competencies
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, children, and parents on all platforms.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and collaborative skills.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Valid Open General driver's licence.
