Job Summary:

The Principal is responsible for providing effective leadership and management of schools for students with intellectual and Developmental disabilities ranging in age from 6 to 18+ years. The job will require you to implement academic, operational and strategic plans in accordance with the MOEY's policies and procedures as well as JAID and the School Board.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor in Educational Administration with Special Education Teacher Training.
  • At least six (6) years in management supervision and teaching persons with  intellectual disabilities/special needs
  • Certification in NCEL Professional Principal Training will be an asset.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Plan Development
  • Instructional and team leadership
  • Community building, networking
  • Conduct Assessment and training needs for staff

Skills and Competencies:
  • Leadership and effective management
  • Building school/community/parental partnerships
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the relevant legislation of the MOEY and JAID.
  • Familiarity of financial administration
  • Knowledge Jamaican Disabilities Act.

Provide strong leadership for a progressing secondary school by:

  • Providing transformational leadership.

  • A post-graduate degree would also be an asset (Master's or Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership or any other appropriate disciple) 
  • At least five (5) years' experience as a teacher - with at least three (3) years in a supervisory role.

  • Strong inspirational leadership skills.
  • Strong in the areas of discipline and professionalism.
  • Strong inter-personal and team-building skills.
  • Strong  communication skills including use of current ICT tools.
  • Knowledge of the laws governing the public educational sector in Jamaica.
  • Knowledge of human resource management regulations and techniques.
  • Knowledge of the financial regulations governing educational institutions.
