Electrical Engineer

Job Purpose

Responsibility to develop, implement and monitor the preventive maintenance and repair programs for the company's electrical, metering and protection systems. This includes 69kv substation, 13.8kv substation (transformer yards), electrical projects, buildings, generators, light pylons, associated distribution and transmission cables, switch gears, relays, horn pits and reefers. Key responsibilities include preparing bid documents, tender evaluation reports, bill of quantities, drawings for all projects.

Job Requirements and Specifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • PMP or other Project Management certification
  • Minimum five (5) years' working experience in an industrial environment
  • Working knowledge of techniques and methods employed in the maintenance of medium voltage/high voltage switch gear equipment, transformers, standby generator plants, feeder management relays etc.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant electrical/electronic engineering systems which include electrical circuits, PLC, control relays and fault diagnostic systems and HV power transmission.
  • Sound knowledge of Jamaica Electrical Standard, Jamaica Public Service supply and distribution system, Jamaica Public Service substation layout and operational procedures
  • Ability to prepare and interpret technical Drawing/sketches.

The Best Dressed Chicken Division of Jamaica Broilers Group Limited is seeking meticulous and proactive individuals to join their Maintenance team. The successful candidates will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Feed Mill facility by providing technical expertise and hands-on support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues in complex industrial environments
  • Perform routine maintenance inspections and troubleshooting on electrical systems, machinery and equipment
  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues, including motors, generators, control panels, switch gear, PLCs and other industrial components
  • Interpret and utilize electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Maintain a strong safety focus and adherence to electrical codes and regulations
To qualify for this position, candidate must possess the following:

Competencies:
  • In-depth understanding of industrial, electrical systems; controls, components, wiring methods, and relevant codes
  • Proficient in identifying electrical faults, diagnosing issues and implementing effective repairs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within a team
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage tasks efficiently
  • Adaptable to working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to work a rotating shift schedule, including weekends and public holidays

Qualifications:
  • Willingness to work on a contractual basis
  • Level 3 certification in Electrical Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution or equivalent qualifications
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in equipment maintenance ideally within a manufacturing or industrial environment

Electrical Technician (Kingston, Jamaica) - Continental Baking Company (National Baking Co.)

 

Continental Baking Company is seeking to recruit Electrical Technicians, who will be responsible for providing electrical engineering support for its operating plants and facilities. He/she will work within a multi-skilled team environment, where equipment reliability, cost containment and process improvement are monitored and measured as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Core Functions
  • Provide technical electrical support to the maintenance and engineering teams, to ensure that all production equipment, facilities and machinery are properly maintained and functioning optimally, using applicable preventative maintenance techniques/systems.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments and root cause analysis of electrical problems on all machines, equipment and processes, ensuring accurate and prescriptive resolutions which are timely, cost effective and improves efficiency; able to work in a mutli-project environment.
  • Assemble, install, assess, test, replace and maintain all electrical or electronic wiring, systems, motors, equipment, pneumatics, appliances, apparatus and fixtures, using appropriate tools; execute the layout and installation of industrial, electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and correct malfunctioning electrical systems, devices, sensors, motors, apparatus and components; respond to emergency situations.
  • Able to follow, read and interpret engineering diagrams/drawings, blue prints, schematics, equipment manuals, Company standard operating procedures (SOP) and processes, manufacturer's instructions and engineering specifications.
  • Ensure full adherence to and compliance with all health, safety, quality, environmental, regulatory standards and protocols.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Diploma in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering and/or equivalent qualification.
  • Level 3 Certification in Industrial Electrical Maintenance.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years’ work experience in a similar position. Experience in a manufacturing facility would be an asset.
  • Functional proficiency in computerized systems, engineering software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Sound knowledge of diagnostic/troubleshooting techniques, preventative maintenance and food safety techniques.
  • Sound human relations, communication, time management, organizational, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of project management, instrumentation and controls would be an asset.
  • Highly professional, ethical and of integrity.
  • Required to work on shift, weekends and public holidays, to meet operational demands.

ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENTATION SUPPORT - PROJECTS

VACANCY: ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENTATION SUPPORT – PROJECTS

COMPANY: CARIB CEMENT– KINGSTON, JAMAICA

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (PLAN PROJECT ACTIVITIES):
  • Prepare budgets.
  • Create schedules.
  • Execute technical and engineering project tasks.
  • Prepare weekly reports.
  • Prepare estimates of time and cost.
  • Prepare request for quotations.
  • Monitor daily execution of projects in the field.
  • Create drawings from scratch using AutoCAD.
  • Review engineering drawings and designs
  • Administer and organize different types of projects.
  • Create stock material reservation.
  • Ensure project cost is allocated to the correct internal order and asset number
  • Control documents and emails in corresponding order.
  • Update projects electronic folder with latest version of information (reports, drawings, picture, quotations, etc.
  • Track material delivery by purchase order numbers.
  • Track and record progress projects to completion.
  • Communicate with procurement, stores, maintenance, production packing plant and sales teams to achieve the objective.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Electrical Installation, Mechatronics or any related field.
  • Working Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and a Production System
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCad software, Project Management software.
  • Training in Electrical, Instrumentation and Automation, MV motors, Switch Gears, Electrical Machines, Hydraulics, Pneumatics and Linear, Plant Engineering, Machine Installation, Lifting and Rigging, Standards of Maintenance, Health Safety and Environment, Wastewater Treatment system, Project Management & General Supervision.
  • Good customer relations and communications skills.
  • Ability to create freehand sketches with details
  • Applied knowledge of technical and engineering drawings and ability to communicate in the language of projections, isometric, Single Line Diagram P&ID, Logic Diagram
  • Ability to use measuring instruments Multimeter, Megger Tester, Voltmeter, etc.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • No work experience required.
Note: It is an entry level role and 1-year short-term contract
