The Montego Bay Metro Company Limited (MGM) is a limited liability company incorporated under the Companies Act of Jamaica, and is owned by the Government of Jamaica (GOJ). The MBM is an agent of the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications, and Transport, providing public transportation services in the western region, in the parishes of Trelawny, St. James, Hanover and Westmoreland. The MBM delivers public transportation services on Mondays to Fridays from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Mechanics 

Minimum Requirements:
  • U.L.C.I./City and Guilds 3rd Auto Mechanics course/JAGAS graduate/NCTVET Level II
  • Minimum of four (4) CXC/General Proficiency subjects Grade I, II or GCE O' Levels (Grade A, B and C or equivalent, including English Language, Mathematics, Science, Auto Mechanics and a technical/workshop subject
  • General Open CMC Driver's License
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience as a General Mechanic in a well established garage or with a fleet operator

Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair faults in automotive systems
  • Ability to operate specialized tools and equipment
  • Automotive technology including hydraulic, electrical and air brake systems
  • Reasoning and judgement must be exercised in prioritizing repairs and in the area of defensive driving
  • Good analytical skills and sound judgement
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written format
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively

MECHANIC
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Maintenance of all container handling equipment, utility motor vehicles, and miscellaneous equipment as per manufacturers specifications
  • Minimizing downtime of equipment by developing effective and speedy solutions for malfunctions.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 3-5 years practical experience
  • Experience with maintenance of heavy equipment such as in the construction and port industries will be an asset
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Holder of a general Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of the shipping industry would be an asset

What's The Role

As an Outside Plant (OSP) Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial (HFC) Technician, your primary responsibility will involve working on the outside plant facilities. You will play a critical role in the installation, maintenance and proactive maintenance of our telecommunication infrastructure, ensuring reliable connectivity for our customers at all times.

What You'll Do:

Your primary functions will include:
  • Install, maintain, and repair hybrid fiber-coaxial distribution systems, including fiber-optic and coaxial cable components.
  • Perform inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of OSP HFC networks to identify, resolve signal quality issues, connectivity problems, and other technical impairments.
  • Utilizes special tools and equipment to measure signal strength, noise levels, and other parameters to ensure optimal network performance.
  • Coordinate with the engineering and design teams to implement network expansions, upgrades, and new installations according to industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies, maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies, industry trends, and best practices related to OSP HFC networks to continuously enhance your skillset and knowledge.
  • To provide excellent customer service by addressing the service concerns of customers in a professional and courteous manner.

Qualifications
What You'll Need:
  • Four years’ experience as a Telecommunications Technician
  • High School Diploma
  • Six (6) CSEC general proficiency subjects inclusive of English Language, Mathematics, Electrical Installation

Electrical Technician (Kingston, Jamaica) - Continental Baking Company (National Baking Co.)

 

Continental Baking Company is seeking to recruit Electrical Technicians, who will be responsible for providing electrical engineering support for its operating plants and facilities. He/she will work within a multi-skilled team environment, where equipment reliability, cost containment and process improvement are monitored and measured as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Core Functions
  • Provide technical electrical support to the maintenance and engineering teams, to ensure that all production equipment, facilities and machinery are properly maintained and functioning optimally, using applicable preventative maintenance techniques/systems.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments and root cause analysis of electrical problems on all machines, equipment and processes, ensuring accurate and prescriptive resolutions which are timely, cost effective and improves efficiency; able to work in a mutli-project environment.
  • Assemble, install, assess, test, replace and maintain all electrical or electronic wiring, systems, motors, equipment, pneumatics, appliances, apparatus and fixtures, using appropriate tools; execute the layout and installation of industrial, electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and correct malfunctioning electrical systems, devices, sensors, motors, apparatus and components; respond to emergency situations.
  • Able to follow, read and interpret engineering diagrams/drawings, blue prints, schematics, equipment manuals, Company standard operating procedures (SOP) and processes, manufacturer's instructions and engineering specifications.
  • Ensure full adherence to and compliance with all health, safety, quality, environmental, regulatory standards and protocols.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Diploma in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering and/or equivalent qualification.
  • Level 3 Certification in Industrial Electrical Maintenance.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years’ work experience in a similar position. Experience in a manufacturing facility would be an asset.
  • Functional proficiency in computerized systems, engineering software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Sound knowledge of diagnostic/troubleshooting techniques, preventative maintenance and food safety techniques.
  • Sound human relations, communication, time management, organizational, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of project management, instrumentation and controls would be an asset.
  • Highly professional, ethical and of integrity.
  • Required to work on shift, weekends and public holidays, to meet operational demands.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Principal Engineer, the Electrical Technician is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining electrical motors and control centers; appliances, lighting fixtures, and also undertaking planned preventative maintenance of electric motors and motor control centers.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Detect and assess electrical problems in control centers, motors, electrical equipment/devices
  • Install electrical motors, lighting fixtures and other appliances/devices
  • Install protective devices on the Commission's property/premises
  • Receive reports on malfunctioning electrical equipment and address issues on a timely basis
  • Prepare schedules for electrical works and report on activities undertaken
  • Examine and certify bills submitted by contractors for electrical work done
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations involving electrical issues (eg. Pump failures/breakdowns, abnormal electrical reactions)

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of three (3) years working experience in the field
  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills
