Messenger/Driver (Kingston Jamaica) - Jamaica Bauxite Institute

The Jamaica Bauxite Institute seeks to engage a qualified and experienced individual for the following position: 

MESSENGER/DRIVER - BAND 2

($1,181,428.00 - $1,588,889.00)

Summary of duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Office and Transport Manager, the Messenger/Driver will be required to:
  • Clear the Institute's mail box on a daily basis, and deliver mail to the Office Clerk
  • Deliver and collect letters and other items as directed and obtain the necessary acknowledgements of all deliveries
  • Ensure that fleet vehicle is in good working condition, kept clean at all times and services as per schedule
  • Transport staff members as required
  • Mail all letters, documents, etc (collected from various offices) on a daily basis
  • Do routine mechanical checks on a weekly basis to ensure proper functioning of the vehicle
  • Delivering packages to customers in a timely manner
  • Collect office purchases or  other administrative needs as per request
  • Updating monthly mileage records
  • Collecting, checking and signing for packages at their respective collection points

Minimum Qualifications and other requirements:
  • Five (5) CXCs inclusive of English Language
  • Possession of a current General Driver's License (6000kg)
Interested applicants must possess a minimum of three (3) years working experience as a licensed driver operating units similar to those in the Institute's Fleet for consideration.

Public Procurement Administrator Needed (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Bauxite Institute

The Jamaica Bauxite Institute seeks to engage a qualified and experienced individual for the following position:


Public Procurement Administrator Level 4

Summary of Duties:

Under supervision of the Procurement Officer, the Public Procurement Administrator will do the following:

  • Coordinate reports on behalf of the Public Procurement Officer.
  • Maintain records in accordance with the FAA Act, Regulations and Instructions.
  • Disseminate in a timely manner, all incoming and outgoing correspondences.
  • Coordinate meetings.
  • Have responsibility for organizing all purchasing documents.
  • Ensure that all purchase requisitions are correctly directed before purchase orders are prepared.
  • Ensure all necessary information for the processing of purchase requisitions available.
  • Assist with compiling data to prepare purchase orders.
  • Communicate with all levels of staff regarding the movement of requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Maintain proper records management for purchase requisitions, purchase orders and C.O.D. letters.
  • Follow up on C.O.D., ascertain preparation of cheques and return the appropriate documentation to the accounts department when goods are supplied or the services are provided.
  • Assist in taking calls from suppliers, shipping agents etc.,

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Diploma in Business Administration/Management Studies/Accounting or any other related field.

Training in Procurement will be an asset.

General Manager (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Bauxite Institute

 


The Jamaica Bauxite Institute is the principal policy, research and development, advisory, monitoring and implementation arm for the government of Jamaica in the Bauxite/alumina/aluminum sector.

General Manager Level 11

(Salary Range: $6,412,947.00 - $7,695,536.00)

Summary of Duties:

under the supervision of the Board of Directors, the General Manager will execute the following:

  • In collaboration with the Chairman and sub-committees of the Board, develop policies and recommend to the Government for the development of the bauxite/alumina/aluminum industry in Jamaica.
  • Direct the implementation of agreed policies falling under the purview of the JBI and ensure the implementation of monitoring strategies.
  • Oversee the formulation and implementation of research and development programmes to enhance the utilization of Jamaican bauxite ore in an efficient, timely and environmentally safe manner.
  • Manage the continual reassessment of Jamaican bauxite ore reserves to update knowledge on their quantity and quality and to ensure rational allocation and utilization consistent with the national interest.
  • Develop and implement community development programmes for the communities adjacent to bauxite and alumia operations, involving coordination among company heads, Members of Parliament, community leaders and government agencies, to ensure harmony between the operations and their neigbors and to ensure sustainable development programme in the area.
  • Direct programme to keep abreast of technological developments in bauxite mining and Bayer process technology to ensure their application here for the most efficient, environmentally safe utilization of Jamaican bauxite reserves and to maintain cost-competitiveness in world market.
  • Liaise with the Ministry directly responsible for bauxite matters, as well as associated Ministries, in, inter alia, taxation, monetary, utilities and labour matters.
  • Liaise with and give support to (via technical advice on negotiations or representation on boards) related organizations such as Jamaica Bauxite Mining Limited (JBM), and Clarendon Alumina Production Limited (CAP).
  • Liaise with, and provide support on Government's behalf, business-related joint ventures or partnerships such as JAMALCAM, JAMALCO.
  • Liaise with the heads of the bauxite/alumina companies, locally and abroad, and take or recommend necessary actions to the Board to enhance the proper development of the industry.
  • Manage the liaison with the companies, the formulation and imple mentation of safe environmental practices in the production and refining of bauxite and alumina.
  • Direct the development of programmes aimed at enhancing the development of byproducts from the processing of bauxite and alumina, such as gallium, rare earth elements, iron, titanium, ceramic and building products, oxalates, and sodium aluminate.
  • Provide oversight and development and the maintenance of a world-class documentation centre with relevant reference and archival documents related to the management of the industry, and the production on a scheduled basis of journals and other publications on the local and global industry. This includes but not limited to the crafting and implementation of impactful public education programmes in order to promote and safeguard the brand of the JBI inclusive of publication of research undertaken by the institution.
  • Oversee the development of human resources activities in the various critical areas of the Institute to develop and enhance the availability and preferred employer status of the JBI and retention of high-quality staff at all times, and ensure succession planning.

Minimum Qualifications and Other Requirements:

Education
An advanced degree in the sciences (pure or applied), economics, commerce, engineering, the liberal arts, law, or any other comparable subject.

Experience
  • At least ten (10) years' working experience in research, technical management, and international negotiations at a senior executive level in a large sized organization.
  • Demonstrate experience in developing strategic and business plans and a working knowledge of measures of performance.
Publications in critical scientific, economic or resource policy journals are an asset.

Internal Auditor (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Bauxite Institute

 The Jamaica Bauxite Institute seeks to engage a qualified and experienced individual for the following position:

Internal Auditor Level 7

Summary of Duties:

Under the supervision of the Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Board, the Internal Auditor will:

  • Audit all BCDF projects in various parishes to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct review of assigned organizational and functional activities in accordance with the prescribed audit programme.
  • Conduct operational, financial and value for money audits using established audit requirements.
  • Develop Risk Management Plan.
  • Establish, implement and maintain the JBI's Enterprise Risk Management process.
  • Conduct risks based audits to respond to organizational risks in a timely manner and provide insights to management to assist in solving risks that challenge the organization.
  • Develop mechanisms to identify, assess and evaluate to enable the execution of the enterprise risk management strategies.
  • Analyze and appraise evidential data to determine the adequacy, efficiency and effectiveness of activities being reviewed and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients with regard to pre and post audit issues.
  • Make preliminary recommendations with respect to weaknesses or deficiencies noted.
  • Prepare Audit Reports to Chief Internal Auditors.
  • Appraise/assess reliability and integrity of the accounting system.
  • determine adequacy and efficiency of the financial and operational procedures and controls that exist.
  • Develop relevant systems, policies and frameworks to comply with the applicable laws and regulations.
Perform special investigations and other assignments as required.

Minimum Qualifications and other Requirements:
  • First Degree in Accounts, Finance, Business Administration, Management, Economics; or 
  • ACCA Fundamentals or equivalent.

Internal Auditor, Secretary/Library Assistant, etc (KGN, JM) - Jamaica Bauxite Institute

 The Jamaica Bauxite Institute seeks to engage qualified and experienced individuals for the following positions:

  • Internal Auditor (level 7)
  • Chef (level 3)
  • Secretary/Library Assistant (Level 3)
Summary of Duties:

Internal Auditor



Under the supervision of the Chairman of the Audit Committee and with general reporting relationship to the General Manager:
The incumbent:
  • Examines and analyzes accounting records to determine the financial status of the Institute
  • Inspects items in books of original entry to determine if accepted accounting procedures were followed in recording transactions
  • Determine whether relevant laws, regulations, policies and rules governing the Institute are adhered to
  • Evaluate the adequacy, efficiency and effectiveness of management controls. Where necessary recommends appropriate corrective action to be taken
Minimum qualifications and other requirements:
  • First degree in Accounts, Finance, Business Administration, Management or Economics; or
  • ACCA fundamentals or equivalent

Chef 

Under the supervision of the Human Resource Manager, the chef will:
  • Design and prepare menu items and plan and develop recipes
  • Ensure that the kitchen is timely and meets quality standards
  • Supervise other kitchen staff and assess employee performance
  • Comply with and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards and procedures
  • Receive and store goods at the correct temperatures as well as utilize the FIFO method
  • Keep up with trends in cooking to ensure the staff and guests have a positive experience
Minimum qualifications and other requirements:
  • Degree in Food Service Management or its equivalent
  • At least two (2) years working in the hospitality industry
  • Must possess a current food handler's permit

Secretary/Library Assistant 

Under the supervision of the Information and Public Relations Manager, the incumbent will:
  • Type all correspondence including articles for publication
  • Prepare invoices
  • Update subscription lists and cut store newspaper clippings
  • Store and make accessible files and other documents
  • Monitor telephone calls, mails and appointments
  • Transmit fax/telefax messages
  • Do photocopying
Minimum Qualifications and Other Requirements:
  • At least four (4) CXCs including English and Mathematics
  • Secretarial training at a minimum grade of level 1
