Messenger/Driver (Kingston Jamaica) - Jamaica Bauxite Institute

The Jamaica Bauxite Institute seeks to engage a qualified and experienced individual for the following position: 

MESSENGER/DRIVER - BAND 2

($1,181,428.00 - $1,588,889.00)

Summary of duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Office and Transport Manager, the Messenger/Driver will be required to:
  • Clear the Institute's mail box on a daily basis, and deliver mail to the Office Clerk
  • Deliver and collect letters and other items as directed and obtain the necessary acknowledgements of all deliveries
  • Ensure that fleet vehicle is in good working condition, kept clean at all times and services as per schedule
  • Transport staff members as required
  • Mail all letters, documents, etc (collected from various offices) on a daily basis
  • Do routine mechanical checks on a weekly basis to ensure proper functioning of the vehicle
  • Delivering packages to customers in a timely manner
  • Collect office purchases or  other administrative needs as per request
  • Updating monthly mileage records
  • Collecting, checking and signing for packages at their respective collection points

Minimum Qualifications and other requirements:
  • Five (5) CXCs inclusive of English Language
  • Possession of a current General Driver's License (6000kg)

Job Summary
To maintain a clean and pleasant working environment.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Cleaning offices, restrooms and dusting furniture daily;
  • Preparing and serving refreshments;
  • Preparing rooms for meetings/conferences;
  • Assisting in monitoring supplies inventory.
Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • Certificate in Service Skills for Ancillary Workers; or
  • School Leavers’ Certificate or equivalent.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral);
  • Good customer service and interpersonal skills;
  • Working knowledge of established hygiene standards;
  • Ability to use initiative;

Remuneration: $857,012 – $1,152.623 per annum

  • Making payments at banks and other business establishments on behalf of UHWI
  • Making unscheduled delivery and pick-ups of items as a matter of urgency

Working Conditions:
General office environment however will be required to do generous amount of walking from time to time.

Minimum Required Education and Experience:
  • Owner of a reliable motor bike
  • Grade 11 education

Messenger/Attendant (Kingston, Jamaica) - National Library of Jamaica

NATIONAL LIBRARY OF JAMAICA
invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Messenger/Attendant (LMO/TS2).

JOB PURPOSE
 Under the direction of the Manager, Maintenance and Property the incumbent is responsible providing ancillary/customer support services to include cleaning and maintenance of the working environment and dispatching and retrieving mails/correspondence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY
  • Cleans working environment
  • Provides maintenance for reading room by vacuuming shelves as assigned
  • Vacuums furniture and library resources as required
  • Cut and mount newspaper clippings
  • Provides attendant services for meetings and events by preparing the physical space and /or preparing and serving refreshments as directed
  • Delivers and collects mails/correspondence as directed
  • Removes goods and furniture as directed
  • Assists with routine building and facilities maintenance as directed

Provides customer support services at the front desk by:
  • Directing customers to the appropriate service areas
  • Ensuring that a record of users is maintained at the front desk
  • Receiving and storing bags at the counter
  • Directing users to lockers for storage of personal effects ensuring that locker keys are distributed and collected
  • Collecting incoming mails and forwarding to the Executive Office
  • Provides relief support in the print room
  • Provides custodian services for the opening and closure of the library as directed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Basic Education up to the Grade 9 level

Salary Scale:  $18,782 – $21,250 fortnightly

  • Be available to work outside of normal working hours to include Saturday
  • Be able to lift and move objects up to 30lbs
  • Must be able to engage in moderate physical activity to include bending, stretching and stooping to clean and inspect confined spaces
