Flight Data Processor (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority

 


The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, a statutory body of the ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport, is seeking to recruit candidates interested in pursuing a career with a global impact in aviation.

If you are technology savvy, spatially aware with an acute ability for multi-tasking in a real-time, fast paced working environment, then you may have the key skills required for a career in Air Traffic Control, commencing at the entry-level of Flight Data Processor

Job Summary

The Flight Data Processor (FDP) is an entry-level position along a progressive career path towards becoming an Air Traffic Controller in Jamaica. The FDP's primary duty is to assist the Air Traffic Control Offier (ATCO) in fulfilling the primary objectives of air traffic services and act as a point of contact for flight information. 

He/She is required to coordinate petinent information on air traffic to adjacent Flight Information Regions (FIRs) and Air Traffic Service Units (ATSU) in accordance with specified Letters of Agreement (LOAs).

FDPs prepare flight progress strips, update and manage flight plans (FPL) using the flight data display system (FDD).

Additionally, she/she is required to manage, correct and forward air traffic information using the ATS Message Handling System (AMHS) or any other appropriate communication channel.

Candidates selected for training must satisfy the following minimum requirements:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 20 years old
  • Have eight (8) CSEC passes at Grades 1 or , to include the following:
    • Mathematics
    • English Language; and 
    • One (1) Science subject including Geography, Physics, Chemistry or Information Technology
    • Three (3) CAPE passes (Units 1 & 2) at Grades 1 or 2

OR

  • Be between the ages of 21 and 24 years old
  • Have completed a Bachelor's of Science degree

AND

  • Three (3) CSEC passes at Grades 1 or 2 to include:
    • Mathematics
    • English Language; and
    • One (1) Science subject including Geography, Physics, Chemistry or Information Technology
AND
  • Have no defects of speech, hearing or sight

JOB SUMMARY

Provide general secretarial support services and administrative support to the Facilities Manager in particular, and to the Facilities Management Department, in general.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Diploma in Secretarial Studies or Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) designation
  • Two (2) years experience in a similar position
  • KEY TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES :
  • Sound knowledge of secretarial practices and procedures
  • Sound knowledge of the relevant word processing applications
  • Sound knowledge of general office procedures
  • Sound understanding of the roles and functions of the JCAA
KEY NON-TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES :

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Types memoranda, letters and other documents as directed by the Facilities Manager.
  • Maintains an efficient filing and records management system for the Department.
  • Monitors incoming telephone calls and responds to routine queries on behalf of the Facilities Manager.
  • Receives, sorts and distributes mail within the Department.
  • Assists in maintaining a database for monitoring the validity and renewal process for Restricted Airport Passes and Police Records for the staff in the Department.
  • Assists in monitoring attendance and leave records for staff in the Department.
  • Assists in drafting and monitoring of Operational Plan and Budget annually for the Department.
  • Assists in preparing routine and ad hoc Facilities/Maintenance Schedules to include pest control and waste management for all locations.
  • Assists in preparing Monthly/Ad Hoc/Project and Annual Report.
  • Liaises with Service Contractors to initiate routine/ad hoc Facilities Maintenance activities.
  • Assists in preparing Procurement Submissions for the acquisition of goods and services.
  • Liaises with Suppliers and Contractors to obtain quotations and process payment for goods and services.
  • Assists with preparation of Department Staff Roster and scheduling of assignments for staff at all locations.
  • Prepares Overtime Claims for Staff and submit for processing.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of stationery and office supplies for the Department.
  • Performs specified administrative duties of the Facilities Manager.

Systems Technician

Job Summary

The System Technician is responsible for ensuring the stable operation of the in-house and cloud-based ICT infrastructure and services. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all hardware, software, and communication links. The incumbent will also analyze and resolve end-user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user training where required.

He/she is required to ensure that the data in the IT Service Desk is up to date and provide responses to users in a timely manner in keeping with the IT Service Standard. An important focus of the role is to fulfil the Department's desktop Support obligation through a combination of remote support and hands-on assistance to end-users.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science or related subjects from a recognized institution.
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL v4) Foundation Certificate.
  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience in the administration and maintenance of Information Communication Technology Infrastructure platforms. 
This must include one (1) year experience supporting any of the following:
  • Microsoft 365, Microsoft Windows Server and Azure Active Directory.
  • Cisco Network, PBX, Firewall and Security Services
  • VMWare/Veeam Infrastructure
  • McAcfee End Point Security Software.
Key Technical/Occupational Competencies
  • Working technical knowledge of ICT networks and Server and PC operating systems, including Windows and linux.
  • Extensive application supports experience with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including CICSO Firewall and Switches, VMWare Hypervisor, McAfee End Point protection and Milestone CCTV Platforms.
  • Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience
  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Key Non-technical Competencies
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Deputy Director General, Corporate Services, the incumbent is required to provide critical business planning support through the monitoring and coordination of strategic activities carried out by all departments within the Corporate Services Division, in fulfillment of the corporate objectives. This includes coordinating monthly and quarterly reports from each department's budget and monitoring of expenditure, as well as the maintenance of a highly efficient office management system.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Five (5) years experience in a similar position
