Accounts Manager (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Defence Force

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) invites suitably qualified persons to enlist in the JDF as a Professional Entry Officer, to fill the following position:

Accounts Manager

Caribbean Military Academy

Candidates must meet the following requirements and competencies

Nationality: Be a citizen of the Commonwealth

Minimum Professional and Educational Requirements:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) and/or Certified Accountant (ACCA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA); Master Degree in Accounting or Equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in accounting of which three (3) years' should be at the supervisory level.
  • Experience working with large budgets.
  • Experience working in Finance or Accounting in a higher education institution would be a distinct asset.
Knowledge and Technical Skills
  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations; including the Generally accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
  • Excellent knowledge of budget preparations.
  • Good knowledge of audit preparations.
  • Ability to manipulate and analyse large amounts of data.

Key Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assist in budget preparation and expense management activities for Schools, Units and Sub-Units of the Caribbean Military Academy (CMA).
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Accounting Office.
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles.
  • Manage the accounts of all Schools at the CMA.
  • Monitor and record financial transactions according to JDF policies and regulations.
  • Monitor expenditures, analyze revenues and determine budget variances through coordination with Headquarters Jamaica Defence Force (HQ JDF).
  • Coordinate with external funders to complete assigned accounting tasks, such as course costings and course tuitions.
  • Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
  • Ensure adherence to the JDF's internal policies.

Secretary (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Defence Force (Civilian)

Under the direct supervision of the Director, Jamaica Combined Cadet Force, the Secretary 2 (OPS/SS 2) is to provide support the operations of the Division by providing efficient and effective secretarial and administrative support services to the Head of Division and customers.

KEY OUTPUTS
  • Polite and knowledgeable customer service provided
  • Documents produced and records and filing system maintained
  • Diary maintained and meetings and appointments arranged
  • Office equipment and supplies managed and maintained for the office of the Director
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains basic knowledge of the operations of the Director’s Office.
  • Advises callers with whom to communicate in the regarding specific issues.
  • Advises callers of the Director’s availability and take messages in his absence or unavailability.
  • Replies to routine queries arriving at the Director’s Office and directing other queries to the relevant official.
  • Interviews visitors and callers to determine the nature of their enquiry and refers persons
  • to the proper authority.
  • Deals with complaints and requests.
  • Issues routine information regarding technical, administrative and/or departmental matters.
  • Disseminates information to internal and external parties.
  • Composes letters and memoranda from general instructions.
  • Answers routine correspondence.
  • Establishes and maintains a system for the control and safe keeping of classified, secret and confidential documents and reports.
  • Types all necessary correspondence for dispatch.
  • Compose letters and memos based on general instructions.
  • Record all mail/ files received and dispatched.
  • Arrange for the printing, photocopying, binding, dispatch etc of documents produced.
  • Design and maintain an effective general filing system.
  • Reviews, proofreads, and edits documents prepared.
  • Maintain the diary of the Director.
  • Schedules appointments and briefs the Director on the matter before confirming meeting.
  • Arrange meetings and ensures that recordings of the proceedings are done.
  • Take minutes at meetings where directed to do so and circulating them as required.
  • Collates and coordinates the bi-weekly work schedules for Unit Head’s meeting
  • Makes local and international travel arrangements, prepares itineraries and maintains all travel records.
  • Office equipment and supplies managed and maintained.
  • Manage the Offices physical resources, such as printers, computers, phones etc. and arrange for the prompt repair or replacement of faulty equipment.
  • Order and secure stationery and other supplies for the Director’s Office.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform other related duties that may from time to time be assigned.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
  • Level of customer satisfaction with service provided (internal and external)
  • Timeliness of production of documents
  • Number of instances of documents filed inaccurately
  • Percentage (%) of the time that files are produced upon request

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • CXC/GCE ‘O’ Level English Language or equivalent with proficiency in typewriting at a speed of 40-45 words per minute and shorthand at 8 -100 words per minute; successful completion of the prescribed Office Professional Training Course at the Management Institute for National Development (MIND).
OR
  • Graduate of an accredited Secretarial School with proficiency in typewriting at speed of 40-45 words per minute and shorthand at a speed of 80- 100 word per minute, training in word processing applications and English Language at CXC or GCE O’ Level.

Associate Clinical Psychologist

Candidates must meet the following requirements and competencies.

Nationality: Be a citizen of the Commonwealth

Professional and Educational Requirements:

  • Master of Clinical Psychology degree from an accredited tertiary institution.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' post training experience in the field.
  • Registered with the Council for Professions Supplement to Medicine.
Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Provide crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Formulate, implement and evaluate a range of psychological therapeutic treatment plans specific to the needs of clients.
  • Monitor client progress and review treatment plan as necessary.

Land Surveyors (Kingston) - Jamaica Defence Force (JDF)

Land Surveyors at 1 Engineer Regiment (Jamaica Defence Force)


Candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

Nationality: Be a citizen of the Commonwealth

Minimum Professional and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying or equivalent from an accredited university
  • At least five (5) years field experience that can be verified by references
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD)
  • knowledge and experience in the use of industry wide preferred drafting and presentation software would be an asset
Key Competencies:
  • Expert research, analytical, report writing and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in Global Navigational Satellite System (GNSS) surveys, traditional survey methods and CADD software

Software Developer (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Defence Force

Software Developer

You will liaise with personnel from all areas of the JDF to document detailed user requirements which will then guide their development of custom software and APIs.

Candidate must fulfill the following requirements:

Nationality: Be a citizen of the Commonwealth.

Minimum professional and Educational Requirements:
  • Associate degree in Information Technology or, four (4) years work experience programming with C# or VB ASP.NET webforms and MVC 5
  • MCSA: Web Applications or equivalent certification is desirable
  • Minimum three (3) years work experience programming with C# and VB ASP.NET

Key Competencies:
  • Coding, testing and documenting applications and APIs in ASP.NET C# using Bootstrap, jQuery, Entity Framework, MSSQL Databases and Visual Studio
