Maintenance Technician (Kingston, Jamaica) - Kingston Wharves

 

This position is responsible for maintaining and making available all mobile port cranes and other container handling equipment, utility motor vehicles and various miscellaneous equipment. Minimizing downtime of equipment and fixtures by developing effective and speedy solutions for malfunctions


CORE FUNCTION:
  • To maintain mechanical and electrical systems on mobile port cranes and other container handling equipment (stackers, container handlers, terminal tractors, bomb carts and man lift)
  • To ensure the deployment of equipment as per check out procedure
  • To ensure that all equipment are maintained as per manufacturers specification
  • To log all corrective and preventive actions executed on the various units.
  • To maintain electrical circuits relating to lighting, air-conditioning units and stand-by generators for all equipment.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:-

a. SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Electrical and electronic control systems
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Engines preferably Cummins (QST30, QSM11, B5.9) and Perkins etc.
  • Pneumatic systems
b. TRAINING:
  • Electrical and electronics systems troubleshooting
  • Industrial Engines, Hydraulic systems and Pneumatic systems
  • Comprehension of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical control circuits
c. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least tertiary level (Diploma) education in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with strong electrical bias or equivalent is required
d. EXPERIENCE:
  • Ideally, a minimum of three (3) years industrial experience in industrial operating systems and maintenance especially with heavy-duty equipment systems is required.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES
  • Troubleshoot and correct mechanical and electrical defects
  • Ability to design and implement electrical systems
  • Satisfactory oral and written skills
  • Good time management skills
  • Good human relation and management skills
  • Ability to use initiative
PHYSICAL DEMAND:
  • Ability to work comfortable at heights exceeding 40-50m or 120-170 feet.
  • Requires the incumbent to move around the terminal by way of foot /service vehicle.
  • Required to work in cramped spaces occasionally

Mechanic (Kingston, Jamaica) - Kingston Wharves Limited

MECHANIC
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Maintenance of all container handling equipment, utility motor vehicles, and miscellaneous equipment as per manufacturers specifications
  • Minimizing downtime of equipment by developing effective and speedy solutions for malfunctions.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 3-5 years practical experience
  • Experience with maintenance of heavy equipment such as in the construction and port industries will be an asset
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Holder of a general Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of the shipping industry would be an asset

  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with hydraulics, diesel engines, transmission, steering and braking systems is essential
  • Ability to focus on preventative/predictive maintenance activities and minimize corrective maintenance activities is required
  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Excellent human relations skills and ability to work in a team
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and decision making skills

Maintenance Technician

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintaining electrical and mechanical systems of all container-handling equipment, utility motor vehicles and miscellaneous equipment, as per manufactures specifications.
  • Minimizing downtime of equipment by developing effective and speedy solutions for malfunctions.
  • Generating periodic reports on terminal equipment.

Qualification and experience
  • At least a Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with electrical bias or equivalent is required. A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum Two (2) years' industrial maintenance experience.
  • Experience with maintenance of heavy equipment such as in the construction and port industries will be an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of industrial electronic systems, power systems and diesel engines.
  • Comprehension of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical control circuits.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Holder of a General Drivers Licence.
  • Knowledge of the shipping industry would be an asset.

  • Must be computer literate.
  • Holder of a General Drivers Drivers Licence.
  • Knowledge of the shipping industry would be an asset.
