Electrical Technician (St. Catherine, Jamaica) - National Irrigation Commission Ltd.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Principal Engineer, the Electrical Technician is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining electrical motors and control centers; appliances, lighting fixtures, and also undertaking planned preventative maintenance of electric motors and motor control centers.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Detect and assess electrical problems in control centers, motors, electrical equipment/devices
  • Install electrical motors, lighting fixtures and other appliances/devices
  • Install protective devices on the Commission's property/premises
  • Receive reports on malfunctioning electrical equipment and address issues on a timely basis
  • Prepare schedules for electrical works and report on activities undertaken
  • Examine and certify bills submitted by contractors for electrical work done
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations involving electrical issues (eg. Pump failures/breakdowns, abnormal electrical reactions)

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of three (3) years working experience in the field
  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills
