Job Summary:
The Accountant plays a key role in the organization and provides critical support to the Chief Financial Officer (CEO). The role is responsible for managing the general ledger and ensuring timely and accurate preparation of management and financial accounts for month end and year end respectively.
Job Description:
- Management of junior accounting staff
- Preparation of Monthly management accounts and finance reports with commentary explaining variances.
- Review and approve journal entries prepared by others.
- Create appropriate general ledger codes (as needed) to ensure sufficient visibility and accuracy for transactions and analyses.
- Coordinate the preparation of schedules monthly in order to maintain a clean balance sheet.
- Coordinate the annual external audit.
- Ensure that all accounting documents, contracts, and agreements are adequately filed.
- Prepare monthly payroll.
- Review GCT calculations and ensure timely filing and payment.
- Review monthly statutory deductions and ensure 100% compliance.
- Submit monthly POCA reports
- Assist with the annual budgeting process.
- Other related duties are required from time to time.
- ACCA level 3 or M.Sc. in Accounting preferred; or other equivalent qualification.
- Minimum five (5) years' experience in a similar position with at least three (3) years' at a supervisory level or above.
- Sound knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and proficient in Excel.
- Must be able to lead the department in the absence of the CFO.
- The Accountant liaises with external stakeholders from time to time
- Must always maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Ability to coach and motivate junior staff into a high-performance mindset.
