Maintenance Technician (Kingston, Jamaica) - Kingston Wharves

 

This position is responsible for maintaining and making available all mobile port cranes and other container handling equipment, utility motor vehicles and various miscellaneous equipment. Minimizing downtime of equipment and fixtures by developing effective and speedy solutions for malfunctions


CORE FUNCTION:
  • To maintain mechanical and electrical systems on mobile port cranes and other container handling equipment (stackers, container handlers, terminal tractors, bomb carts and man lift)
  • To ensure the deployment of equipment as per check out procedure
  • To ensure that all equipment are maintained as per manufacturers specification
  • To log all corrective and preventive actions executed on the various units.
  • To maintain electrical circuits relating to lighting, air-conditioning units and stand-by generators for all equipment.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:-

a. SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Electrical and electronic control systems
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Engines preferably Cummins (QST30, QSM11, B5.9) and Perkins etc.
  • Pneumatic systems
b. TRAINING:
  • Electrical and electronics systems troubleshooting
  • Industrial Engines, Hydraulic systems and Pneumatic systems
  • Comprehension of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical control circuits
c. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least tertiary level (Diploma) education in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with strong electrical bias or equivalent is required
d. EXPERIENCE:
  • Ideally, a minimum of three (3) years industrial experience in industrial operating systems and maintenance especially with heavy-duty equipment systems is required.

Job Vacancy for

Financial Controller (FMG/PA 2)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants to fill the vacant position of Financial Controller with the Pesticides Control Authority.

Job Purpose

Reporting directly to the Registrar, the Financial Controller is responsible for managing the financial operations of the Pesticides Control Authority to ensure the proper acquisition and utilization of funds and assets in accordance with government policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the implementation of all accounting functions of the Authority.
  • Assist the Registrar in preparing all PCA Budgets.
  • Monitor the performance through appropriate reports based on analysis and interpretation of financial data relating to cash flow.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for submission by the Registrar to the PCA Board in accordance with the Public Bodies and Accountability Act.
  • Manage and supervise all activities related to financial accounting.
  • Prepare an investment portfolio and report on investment performance.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly reports on contracts to the Office of the Contractor General.
  • Supervise the Accounting Technician.

Technician Responsibilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of the FAA Act;
  • Knowledge of computer information systems, security, regulation and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of the network operating system;
  • Proficiency in the use of relevant computer software including Turbopay, Peachtree, Spreadsheet and other computer applications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Government Accounting Principles and Practices.

  • Ability to compile and prepare narrative and statistical reports;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and conviction of purpose in unfavorable/unpopular situations;

  • BSc Degree in Accounting or Management Studies and three (3) years' experience; Or
  • Associate Degree in Accounting with ACCA qualification and five (5) years' experience.
