Jamaica's minimum wage to be increased again June 1, 2024.


During his budget presentation Thursday, March 21, 2024, the Hon. Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced that  the minimum wage will increase to $15,000 per week as of June 1, 2024. Currently, the minimum wage is $13,000 and was raised to that figure in June 2023, up from $9,000 per week.

"I'm pleased to announce a further increase to the minimum wage...per 40-hour work week," he said. He also noted that increase was an additional 15% on the minimum wage.

Additionally, the Prime Minister also announced that there will be increase in the minimum wage for industrial security guards from $14,000 to $15,000 per week as of June 1. When the previous increase was announced for industrial security guards the government had noted that would be last occasion there would be a difference in the amount for national minimum wage and the amount paid to industrial security guards.

PM Holness also revealed that the government thought carefully about the increase and felt it was necessary "to keep our working class and our poorest abreast with inflation. 

This means that the government is trying its best to keep wages on par with the inflation rate.
