Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Ambulance Attendant (HSC/HS 3) at the University Hospital of the West Indies in the Transport Department.
Summary of Duties:
Under the general direction of the Transport Manager, the individual will:
- Provide auxiliary care to patients to facilitate the essential delivery of medical care by health care professionals at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI)
- Assist ambulance drivers in transporting sick, injured or convalescent persons to and from specified locations
- Assist in lifting patients onto wheeles cart or stretcher and into and out of ambulance
- Remove and replace soiled linens from cot
- Replace supplies and disposable items on ambulances
- Provide reports of accidents or emergencies to the appropriate authority
- Restrain patients when necessary
Minimum Required Education and Experience
- Certificate in Allied Health Care - HEART NVQ-J
- Training in customer service relations
- Three (3) years experience in Auxiliary Health Care practices
Required Competencies:
- Proficient in administering first aid
- Good communication skills (written or oral)
- Proficient in the careful handling and moving of objects
- Effective listening skills
- High level of proficiency in customer care
Specific Conditions associated with the job
- May be exposed to hazardous materials
- May be exposed to unpleasant odours
