Ambulance Attendant (University Hospital of the West Indies


Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Ambulance Attendant (HSC/HS 3) at the University Hospital of the West Indies in the Transport Department.

Summary of Duties:

Under the general direction of the Transport Manager, the individual will:
  • Provide auxiliary care to patients to facilitate the essential delivery of medical care by health care professionals at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI)
  • Assist ambulance drivers in transporting sick, injured or convalescent persons to and from specified locations
  • Assist in lifting patients onto wheeles cart or stretcher and into and out of ambulance
  • Remove and replace soiled linens from cot
  • Replace supplies and disposable items on ambulances
  • Provide reports of accidents or emergencies to the appropriate authority
  • Restrain patients when necessary
Minimum Required Education and Experience
  • Certificate in Allied Health Care - HEART NVQ-J
  • Training in customer service relations
  • Three (3) years experience in Auxiliary Health Care practices

Required Competencies:
  • Proficient in administering first aid
  • Good communication skills (written or oral)
  • Proficient in the careful handling and moving of objects
  • Effective listening skills
  • High level of proficiency in customer care

  • May be exposed to hazardous materials
  • May be exposed to unpleasant odours
