Paralegal Officer
(Temporary)
The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) invites application from suitable qualified persons to fill the position of a Paralegal Officer.
The successful candidate will report to the Director of the division. The incumbent will be responsible for preparation of contracts (including leases), conducting research and preparation of correspondence and related documents for litigation and all legal matters of the organization upon instruction from the Legal Officer.
Job Responsibilities
- Create reports and documents based on case specifications and requests.
- Help lawyers prepare legal arguments, motions, and other case fillings.
- Monitor changes to laws, guidelines, or regulations; submit reports on pertinent changes in legislation.
- Utilize existing files and a variety of other legal research resources to develop information for pending cases.
- Prepare affidavits, legal correspondence and other documents for attorneys.
- Organize and maintain documents in a paper or electronic filing system.
- Prepare briefs, wills, contracts, real estate closing statements, pleadings, appeals, and other legal documents.
- Investigate facts and laws of cases and search public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine causes of action.
- Gathering and analyzing statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, documents and other data.
Qualifications required
Education/Experience:
- Proven experience as Paralegal (three (3) years);
- Associate degree in paralegal studies required; bachelor's degree preferred;
- Knowledge of constitution, legal terminology, regulations and court system;
- Knowledge of MS Office and ability to work with legal technology.
- Working knowledge and competency with case management software;
- proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Must be able to effectively multi-task, manage time-sensitive documents and have exceptional organizational skills in a fast-paced environment;
- Must be able to function effectively in a busy, team-oriented environment;
