Junior Engineer (Kingston, Jamaica) - National Works Agency

 The National Works Agency, an executive agency of the Government of Jamaica is seeking suitably qualified individuals for the undermentioned position.

Junior Engineer 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Highway/Town Planning, or related subject
Skills Requirements:
  • Sound knowledge of research methodologies, survey techniques and statistical methods
  • Knowledge of road planning techniques
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of relevant computer applications and systems
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interpersonal and team skills

Reporting Relationship: 
Reports to: Senior Highway Engineer

Highlight of Job Functions:
  • Conduct feasibility studies for road improvements and related projects
  • Conduct economic analyses as required for locally and internationally funded projects
  • Prioritize and develop programmes for the maintenance of roads and bridges, based on road condition, traffic volume, etc
  • Analyze classification of road network and make recommendations for changing status of road network
  • Maintain and deliver timely accurate data returns from the field regarding traffic, preliminary engineering details and road condition
  • Liaise with the relevant line directorates, assist in maintaining a road condition inventory
  • Liaise with the traffic branch and the road safety authorities assisting in carrying out accident studies
  • Organize the system of continuous road condition reporting, carry out research into surface deterioration and make recommendations to reduce the rate of deterioration
  • Request traffic counts and surveys, investigate axle road regulations, utilize computer programs in preparation of road maintenance programmes
